College Muscle Movers

After helping a former boss move, Jerad Poling and Jeff Rogers began J&J
Moving in the spring of 2004. A small ad in the Eau Claire, WI
Leader-Telegram began to generate moving jobs. Jerad and Jeff worked
together throughout the summer on large and small moving projects.
By the end of the summer, Jerad and Jeff had plans to leave Eau Claire and
attend the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, and the University of
Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, WI, respectively. The first summer of
operation was a success. Total revenue for the summer neared $4,000.00, much
more than either Jerad or Jeff had expected. Because of little expense,
profit margin was very high. Although J&J Moving did well its first year,
the ambition and idea for a moving company would be put on
hold while Jerad and Jeff began college.

By late 2004 Jeff decided not to continue with the business, leaving Jerad
as the sole owner. By early spring 2005, J&J Moving became College Muscle
Movers. Hiring additional help became necessary. Jerad spent the spring of 2005
preparing materials and processes. In April 2005, College Muscle Movers'
first part-time employee was hired. Because moving is really a team effort, in which two or more movers are necessary for most jobs, hiring the first employee turned into hiring
another part-time mover almost immediately. By mid-summer 2005, two
additional movers were hired to compensate for the demand the moving service
was generating.

Jerad and his four movers kept very busy in the summer of 2005. As with the
summer before, returning to school at the University of St. Thomas in St.
Paul, MN was necessary, and closing the business for the winter was a hard
realization after another successful summer. The summer of 2005 generated
over $10,000 in revenue with continued high profit margins. The 250%
increase in revenue was attributed to more advertising in the Eau Claire
Leader-Telegram, Craigslist.com and guerilla marketing.

Going into the winter of 2005 Jerad knew that the business concept idea was
showing potential to become a full-fledged year-round moving business. The
winter of 2005-2006 was spent preparing to operate the business year-round.
Today, College Muscle Movers has 15 part-time student movers who are trained
to use the skills and approach that Jerad has found to be successful. The
movers are athletic, careful, friendly and willing to help, a
customer-oriented business philosophy in an industry that isn't always known
for such attention to detail. College Muscle Movers delivers reliable,
professional moving labor at reasonable rates.
